The Okanui Woodies
In the 1950’s and 60’s, Californian surfers were sticking
their surfboards into the back of old American ‘Woodies’.
The ‘Woodie’ became the surf cult wagon.
Okanui Classics used their ‘Woodies’ in their early ads.
Dick Ash had restored 1939 and 1946 Plymouth ‘Woodies’,
both sporting the Okanui number plates.
Dick is currently working on a 1946 Chev van
which he says will be his ultimate ‘Woodie’.
He discovered it complete with old Hawaiian plates.
The Mechanics and body are all original, and Dick says
restoring the woodwork has been a real pleasure…
